Those who can... get asked.

Two weeks ago, I was asked to serve as a "Unit Commissioner" for several scout troops operated by several wards (congregations) of my church. Last sunday, I learned that responsibility was handled within the religious organization by a concurrent assignment as an "Assistant to the Stake Young Men's Presidency"--well, that's fine by me.

Last Wednesday, a good friend and member of the Young Men's Presidency (of which I am assisting) called me needing a favor. It seems he is having to travel tomorrow and was scheduled to speak at a Ward Conference. So--Sunday I am giving a 30-40 minute talk on Christ's Atonement to a different congregation than my own--just before a member of the Stake (diocese-like grouping of congregations) presidency speaks. No pressure.

It's like Lord Baden-Powell said... be prepared for any little old thing.

I'm not worried... if I screw it up, I won't be invited to do it again.

I've already written the thing (drawing heavily on some notes I made for a class I taught a while back) and practiced it twice.

I took today off from work and spent the day organizing the garage and preparing a shipment of things for the Lodge garage sale.

It's 2 am and I need to go to bed.
